The new vessel, under the project name METEOR IV, will replace the research vessel POSEIDON, which has already been decommissioned, and the METEOR, which has been in service since 1986. The METEOR IV is scheduled for commissioning in 2026. The ship is a qualified further development of the SONNE, which is based on the SONNE research vessel in terms of ship design and at the same time incorporates the technical developments of the past ten years.
