Smaller research groups especially from universities may participate in an existing cruise as ancillary users (generally three persons per cruise, and a maximum of 20 for the FS POLARSTERN). A prerequisite is that the group has its own programme of research activities. In addition, applications for ancillary use can only be made for cruises that have already been approved, and sufficient notice must be given (at least one year for large vessels). There is no provision for the ancillary use of medium-sized research vessels.
Please refer to the list of all cruises recommended by the GPF to include in the scheduling process on the subpage "Cruise Planning".
Cruise proposals and applications for ancillary use can be submitted by 28 February and 31 August of any year via this portal only (see "Guidelines").
