Ancillary Use

Secondary Use

Smaller research groups especially from universities may participate in an existing cruise as secondary users (generally three persons per cruise, and a maximum of 10 persons for FS POLARSTERN). A prerequisite is that the group has its own programme of research activities. In addition, applications for secondary use can only be made for cruises that have already been approved, in consideration of sufficient lead time (at least one year for large vessels). There is no provision for the secondary use of medium-sized research vessels.

Please refer to the list of all cruises recommended by the GPF to be included in the scheduling process on the subpage "Cruise Planning".

For cruise proposals for secondary use, the same formal requirements and deadlines apply as for cruise proposals for main use of the research vessels (see "Cruise Proposal Preparation Instructions").
